Saturday December 29, 1934

(This is an entry from the journal entitled Mexico Summer written by Elizabeth Lancaster Carsey 80-years-ago.  Click here to read more)

Carsey arrived early in the morning and came to lunch with us  – We got the Mexican music in the afternoon and fooled around downtown until almost too late.  Rush home to pack for El Paso jaunt – !Que gloriosa en la vida!! Carsey, Jaimie and I got to El Paso just after 8.  Waited just a little for Harold and Dit – Jaime got Mickey (Dit’s erstonwhile? roommate) and we six go to the Tivole in Juarez – Meet Harriet Poorbaugh there which quite upsets Jaime, because of her resemblance to his Harriet Lawhon!  Met Catherine Smith, her “auroela”, her mother and sisters – Harold and Dit left early but after the Tivoli the rest of us went to La Posta in El Paso.  The music was not good — in the Tivoli they played “Las Gaviotas”, “Rancho Grande”, “Kiss me Again”, “Liebstraing” and other fav-ites.  Swell time!  I tasted a slow gin fizz and found it rather good. Carsey was almost drunk!!

Here’s what else was happening 80-years-ago today:
