Shopped all day for Christmas – Charlotte K. came up for tuna-fish sandwiches and coffee.  Renewed loan at bank one month.

This is the last post in the journal – and I do not have another. As you can see she was writing more infrequently as the wedding date gets closer.  They were married January 22, 1938 in Van Horn, Texas.   I will continue to post his letters on the date they were written, obviously I am unable to guess when they were received.

It was a full house at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City.

Full house at the Metropolitan Opera House, NYC, on November 28, 1937. This is the view from the rear of the stage looking outward as famous pianist Josef Hofmann plays for the audience. The Metropolitan Opera House was located at 1411 Broadway. Opened in 1883 and demolished in 1967, it was the first home of the Metropolitan Opera Company. It had a seating capacity of 3,625. Generalissimo Francisco Franco announced a total naval blockade of Republican ports and warned that any ship attempting to enter the ports would be attacked. He also told the Republican government to surrender by December 12 or face a massive new offensive.

Thanksgiving!  Got up late. Saw “Wife Doctor Nurse” at Premier last night.  Image result for wife doctor nurseWas good. Ate dinner with Klyngo, went to the new Museum (art) in the afternoon and met Mr. Sprague, in charge. Ate supper, Aylce Claire and I, at Martens. Charlotte St. John and Mr. Coppeg’s other guests. Very enjoyable day. Addie, Jim and Henry Clark came down last night for the holiday. They went to Lela’s in the mts. today. Lavora takes them home Sat. Letters from Arnold, Ty-ty and Diantha.
