Shopped all day for Christmas – Charlotte K. came up for tuna-fish sandwiches and coffee.  Renewed loan at bank one month.

This is the last post in the journal – and I do not have another. As you can see she was writing more infrequently as the wedding date gets closer.  They were married January 22, 1938 in Van Horn, Texas.   I will continue to post his letters on the date they were written, obviously I am unable to guess when they were received.

Little flurry with Melvin Fitzgerald in class today. He is too free with his Image result for firefly 1937temper and swear-words – but not to me thank goodness!  Saw “Firefly” last night and loved it!  Went to Clyde’s to work on Dit’s Christmas present.

Arnold called about 10 a.m. Had a chance to come to Carlsbad with fellows going to the Caverns. He came on up here – My premonitions about him surely come true. Been feeling that he’d come or call for “two days!” Saw “Live Begins at College” with Ritz Brothers! Silly! Saw our bookcase. Saw Velma and Pete, Evelyn was married today! Was to have been our wedding day if our first plans had carried!!! Visited with Hazel Hansen, Mrs. Martens, Mr and Jack called to Neb by illness of Mr,Mrs father – he is better. Rode around in the moonlight. Had Mexican supper. To bed about 2 a.m. Arnold hopes the fellows stay until afternoon but it is doubtful.!

Lewis gave a radio address broadcast across the United States in which he attacked the Roosevelt Administration for professing impartiality in the country’s labor disputes instead of supporting the workers. Lewis brought up the prospect of creating a farmer-labor third party movement.
