Sunday December 2, 1934

Sunday School and church.  Dad preached a good sermon. Ate dinner and Carsey was our guest.  Left right after dinner for Carlsbad.  On the way we stopped once for them to shoot quail but they did not get one (’twas out of season?! and they had no license!) Arrived in Carlsbad at 5:30 (4:30 N.M. time) Time only for a cup of coffee before I took the bus. Saw them to wave to after we had left the bus station.  Bus was crowded by the time we left Artesia. Got into Roswell about 7:30 and there was Bernard! Was glad to see him – Was tired when I reached Roswell.  He took me to supper and then home. I want to do nothing but crawl in bed but I guess I’ll write home. Thanksgiving Day we sent a telegram to Jonathon – Diantha didn’t get home either!  Surely did hate to leave them at Carlsbad – They were probably to embarrassed (or cold!) to say much but I felt rather put off!  Shouldn’t think it, I guess, but I was tired and it hurt a little.

Here’s what else was happening 80-years-ago today:

The 200 inch mirror for the lens of the Hale Telescope that will be placed in the  Palomar Observatory is cast.  This is the second attempt after a failure that began in March 1934.

The Babes in the Woods are laid to rest in donated graves.
