About Shanna Vicker

I was lucky enough to be a part of my Grandmother Elizabeth Carsey's last 40 years. We played countless card games, read books, played dress-up and many other games at her house. My family spent almost every holiday with her and Grandpa (until his death in 1985.) She was loved by the entire neighborhood and was often referred to as the Neighborhood Grandma. I held a special pride in the fact that I could call her mine! Through her simplicity, she taught me the basics of life and the things which make you happy. Love your family, your church and music. The only thing worth crying over is beautiful music. And above all else, approach life with a sense of humor. I have done my best to live up to her expectations and pass those lessons onto my children.

Letter from Dad – the sweetest I have ever received!  I hope I never lose it.  I’ve been able to do nothing all day since classes except pace the floor!  Dad says, if I’m not going to get my degree why finish now? Why not go home? and if the course weren’t so near over (over and done) I would!

Cut the Educ. class because they visited another school. Came home to find letters from Arnold and Dit, bless her heart!  In the afternoon, letters from Ty-Ty, Jonathon and Mary Jo – Wonder what Dad will say!  Never have thought that he wanted me to be married – not just to Arnold, perhaps, but to anyone! Found out that there was a earthquake (very small) here last night between 9:30 and 10. Maybe that’s why I felt a little dizzy when I got out of the boat at Xo –

Went to see Martha Eggert (?) in “Castilla en Flanders” which was very good. She is bellisima and has a lovely voice –   we went to Xochimileo because there was a moon. Met up with 5 ladies from St Louis who knew not 6 words of Spanish among them! We stayed out an hour and the moon made everything fairy – like and beautiful. There was a fiesta there of some kind and music, rockets and fire-crackers sounded everywhere!  The car was packed coming home – Jean and I rode the second car and finally got seats!

Still no word from Carsey but I guess it takes a good long time. Had a program today from Jalisco!  The same tenor who range at El Patio Colonial when we went, was there today, and the couple that used to dance at the floor show of the Regis’ Don Quijote Room was there too.  I bought a beautiful carved table for Dit (20 Pesos!) and brought it home this afternoon. Sewed on my black dress and talked to Mrs. Ruiz. Yesterday, I bought a zarape from Michoncan, grey with figures of two coyotes which they say bring good luck- (Ojala! If Carsey has a car it will go for a seat covering which we failed to get while in Taxco!

Jean went to Tepozlan at 7:10 with an excursion.  I wait very impatiently for a telegram or some word that will tell me Arnold has crossed the border safely. I write as though he were a criminal or something but I don’t like it at all that Tony is going with them. I can’t see the necessity of it so I am worried! Wrote cards to Charlotte and Lenore, read, did everything but chew my fingers!
