Letter from home and Jessie Belle – the latter expects me for Thanksgiving!  Don’t understand why.  S. S dinner came of at night – Bernard was there and I am glad for it got the married over doing some real planning to bring their husbands.  Should have been at school grading Standard Tests, also at Messiah practice and A.A.U.W. !!

Pauline R. came to see me.  She and Mary Winford – She has been in Dexter since Wednesday night.  Looks quite as usual

Visited the Baptist for church because our preacher hasn’t arrived yet.  Went to Mrs. Martens after supper.

Jumbo Musical.jpgThe musical Jumbo with music and lyrics by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart premiered at the New York Hippodrome on Broadway.

 

The German government protested to Britain that a new British regulation on German exports going into effect on November 18 was “not in harmony with certain provisions of the German-British trade agreement.” The regulation stated that the exports must be accompanied by certificates of origin and was an attempt to prevent Italian exports from entering Britain.

Another letter from home about Dr. L’s moving – Saw Hollywood Premiere and the cute show “Hands Across the Table”  with Carole Lombard and Fred MacMurry.  Both good!  Bernard and a friend sat with us – we discussed Linebaugh.

Letter from home telling of Carsey’s not having an oil job but trying out for sports reporter on one of the El Paso papers – Hope he isn’t too hard up!  Wrote home in detail about Civil Service job and chances for a day after Thanksgiving.  This is Thursday, of the fifth week of the second six weeks of the year!  Time is simply flying!  Had a long, letter yesterday from Rosamond Deen, I guess she is in Portables by now –

Told the family on a card what I had learned.  Yesterday I had a letter from Washington about translator’s position in Civil Service.  I’ve sent in a card to be notified of an examination.  Mrs. Mulroy ate supper with us at the Cafeteria.  The 3 of us saw “Keeper of the Bees” later .  Practiced some shorthand but I am no shark at it.  Saw Bernard at the show.

The R.P. Resor was built in 1935 by Federal Ship Building Co. in Kearney, New Jersey, she was launched on Saturday, November 13, 1935.  She was sunk by a German Submarine in 1942.   A video of the wreck was recorded 77 years later in 2012.

Messiah Practice – There Mrs.Martens told me that we now had a preacher. Dr. Linebaugh had traded with a Rev Jones from near Ft. Worth!!! Will wonders never cease!  I wonder if that will make any differences!

Portuguese neurologist Antonio Moniz performed the first “leucotomy” – a procedure that involved cutting into the human brain.   An American doctor named Walter Freeman embraced the approach  – he renamed them “lobotomies.

In an effort to address nationwide supply shortages, Nazi Germany prohibited the export of important food and industrial raw materials.

The Ethiopian government reported a victory over Italian forces in Ogaden.

A 700-person lynch mob in Columbus, Texas hanged two African-American youths accused of raping and murdering a young white woman. The county attorney said he did not consider the citizens who committed the lynching a mob, and called their act “the expression of the will of the people.

Am expecting Pauline, Jeanette and Elton some time today – Found a piece of vine covered with gorgeous scarlet leaves.  It is pinned across the curtain of my window and I love to look at it.  Sent card for “the Correct English” for another year.

Rode around and went to the show with Lenore and Harriet – Saw “I live my life”   with Joan Crawford and Brian Aherne – very good!  Armistice Service in the evening with Sentator Hatch as speaker.  Lenore and I were together and she spent the night with me. More fun!

Henry Ford tries to take a wind mill from Cape Cod.  Residents accuse him of mill-knapping.

The original Pančevo Bridge opened in Yugoslavia in the presence of Regent Prince Paul.

 

 

 

‘J. Peress’ dive suit, Tritonia, explored the Lusitania wreck . Jim Jarrett was Peress’s chief Preparing-to-Explore-the-Wreck-of-the-Lusitania-3-620x909diver and made this dive to 312 feet. This suit was a precursor to the “Jim” suit, named for Jim Jarrett.
