Registering, one general meeting and the hospital took most of the day.  Mrs.  Regensberg came at 10:30 P.M. Jessie Tennison stayed with us in Betty’s place.

Here’s what else was happening 80-years-ago today:

Angry Italians staged anti-British demonstrations in Rome. Students shouted anti-British slogans and vandalized shop signs that were written in English.

In Chicago, Big Joe Williams and the Washboard Blues Singers made the first recording of the classic blues song “Baby, Please Don’t Go“.

The British government said it would raise the school-leaving age from 14 to 15.

Left for Albuquerque about 12:15. Mrs. Johnson fixed us a lovely chicken lunch.  Just the other side of Encino we found the wreck in which Mary Wingford’s car collided with Francis Schulty’s.  Pauline Regensberg , Rosamund Dean were with Mary and a negro maid with Francis.    Rosamund was worst hurt, her chin bone broken and many teeth lost!  Pauline came next with a broken arm, swollen eye, severed artery just under the knee and sprained ankle.  Sounds worse but weren’t so disfiguring or permanent.   Alyce Claire took Rosamund and Pauline to Encino – Betty and I stayed with the cars till some men came to take care of them.  The two had to say in the hospital.

Here’s what else was happening 80-years-ago today:

Nazi Germany announced a general inspection of all vehicles in the country to determine and catalogue their suitability for military use in the event of an emergency.

Boeing XB-17

Boeing’s  Model 299 crashed during a test flight at  a  flight competition for airplane manufacturers vying to build its next-generation long-range bomber.  The competition was held by the U.S. Army Air-Corps at Wright air Field in Dayton , Ohio.  After this tragedy the Air Corps personnel developed checklists the crew would follow for takeoff, flight, before landing, and after landing.
