Tuesday October 29, 1935

(This is an entry from the journal entitled “Mexico Summer” written by Elizabeth Whipple Lancaster Carsey 80-years-ago)

Hair fixed, convention cards given out and I am getting all set for Albuquerque tomorrow.  This time tomorrow I’ll be with Jeanette and Pauline.  Guess Mahota wont be there – So she wrote but I wish she were!  Got my dress from Mrs. Parker.  It was a little large bit it will do to take to the convention.  Mrs. Wilmot came to see Mary – Alyce Claire had a date to the high school operetta with  *Father Akin!

Here’s what else was happening 80-years-ago today:

Benito Mussolini

Mussolini proclaimed food restrictions, going into effect November 5, in order to fight the effects of boycotting and sanctions. Butcher shops were to close on Tuesdays and were forbidden from selling beef, veal, mutton, lamb or pork on Wednesdays. Since butcher shops already usually closed on Thursdays and most Italians refrained from eating meat on Fridays, the decree amounted to a half-week ban on meat.
