Dreamed of stairs  again which means opportunities – so here goes.  I had my picture taken (3 for 10 cents!) and sent in a letter of appreciation to Dr. C.S. Smith of McMurray College, Abilene, Texas!  Also wrote to Sra. de Ruiz, after as long as time!  Alyce Claire and Joyce went to see Will Rogers in “Life Begins at 40” – Hope they enjoyed it.

cinco de mayo, cinco de mayo celebrations, san francisco, california

Cinco de Mayo!  We wished we could have stayed for the big bull fight of the celebration.  Got home as the sky was getting light.  Slept a while but we all went to church and heard a good sermon.   Left for Roswell about 1:30 (Tex time) and arrived safely, sin novedad*, just aprilabout 5:00 (N.M. time) – Card from Bernard awaiting  me.  I am not sure we will have our jaunt at the end of school because Jaime probably won’t be able to get off for that and graduation, too – I’d rather like to repeat it but not come back the same night – Carsey is charming to talk to (about a good many things), nice to dance with, and a perfect companero, still, for a jaunt –

*novelty

cardinalArrived in Van Horn between 8:30 and 9:00 – Dad almost had a posse out after me!  Had breakfast and went to town. Jaime gets the idea to go to El Paso.  He finally finds somebody to work for him!  Carsey, Jaime, Jimmy Terrill, Alyce Claire,  Joyce and I went about 2:30!  Jaime had wired Harold n Dit to meet us at 6:30.  We saw “Cardinal Richelieu” with George Arliss! Grand!! Eight of us had supper again at Mills and Dit recounted “Pigs Is Pigs” which they had just finished!  Went to Juarez and Carsey and I walked to the market (already closed) and back before going to the Tivoli – Danced until nearly three!  I was tired – Carsey and I went hunting for a coke but finally found a lime rickey at Lobby no. 2. All the way home we talked of Mexico City. I hope he can go this summer, but I hope I can too.  If he doesn’t stop writing and talking about Mexico, he will have me going and ‘twould be again my better judgement! He does make it tempting.

Woke up to the sound of rain!  Rained all day – snowed about noon!  In May!! At noon Mr. Teague and Joyce Teague Kistler had come in and were “raring” to go to Van Horn.  Left at 4 after calling dad.  Van Horn was having a sand storm!  Got  about 40 miles south of Carlsbad and the lights on the car would not work while the engine ran.   So we stayed all night at a camp garage, luckily nearby
