(This is an entry from the journal entitled Mexico Summer written by Elizabeth Lancaster Carsey 80-years-ago. Click here to read more)

cardinalArrived in Van Horn between 8:30 and 9:00 – Dad almost had a posse out after me!  Had breakfast and went to town. Jaime gets the idea to go to El Paso.  He finally finds somebody to work for him!  Carsey, Jaime, Jimmy Terrill, Alyce Claire,  Joyce and I went about 2:30!  Jaime had wired Harold n Dit to meet us at 6:30.  We saw “Cardinal Richelieu” with George Arliss! Grand!! Eight of us had supper again at Mills and Dit recounted “Pigs Is Pigs” which they had just finished!  Went to Juarez and Carsey and I walked to the market (already closed) and back before going to the Tivoli – Danced until nearly three!  I was tired – Carsey and I went hunting for a coke but finally found a lime rickey at Lobby no. 2. All the way home we talked of Mexico City. I hope he can go this summer, but I hope I can too.  If he doesn’t stop writing and talking about Mexico, he will have me going and ‘twould be again my better judgement! He does make it tempting.

Here’s what else was happening 80-years-ago today:
