Went to Cuernavaca at one o’clock.  I had one exam in Lit and it wasn’t hard – Got to Cuernavaca and visited in the Palace of Cortez Cathedral and Borda Gardens.

The latter are perfectly beautiful in an un-kempt sort of way.  We sat  in a “pergola” for awhile and looked at the green hills and homes built by the rich for their vacations.  When we got back to town it was too late to go back to Mexico so we registered in one of the expensive hotels and stayed.  Carsey and I went back to the Cathedral after supper (about midnight it was!) and listened to the organ in some service they had for some virgin – The altar was beautiful with white candles and lilies that grow as profusely in Cuernavaca!  And the moon was so pretty, clouded sky.

FDR signs the Social Security Act into law.

Detroit’s All-Star pitcher, Lynwood Thomas “Schoolboy” Rowe, almost single-handedly beat the hapless Senators. Rowe went 5 for 5 with a double, triple, and four RBI, and pitched a complete game giving up just two runs en route to a Detroit 18-2 victory over Washington in a day game in Detroit.
