Edward Russell, 26th Baron de Clifford was found not guilty of manslaughter in a case of careless driving.[This was the last time a trial of peers in the House of Lords was held, since that privilege of peerage was abolished in 1948.

 

Fuad I 1868 – 1936 Sultan and later King of Egypt and Sudan, Sovereign of Nubia, Kordofan, and Darfur. The ninth ruler of Egypt and Sudan from the Muhammad Ali Dynasty became Sultan of Egypt and Sudan in 1917, succeeding his brother Sultan Hussein Kamel. In 1930, he attempted to strengthen his power by abrogating the 1923 Constitution and replacing it with a new constitution limiting parliament to advisory status only. Public dissatisfaction force him to restore the constitution in 1935.:

Christening of a Lebensborn child

The Lebensborn organization was established in Nazi Germany.

In an effort to deny them citizenship, Judge John Knight of the U.S. District Court in Buffalo, New York, denied three Mexicans’ petitions for naturalization because they had a “strain of Indian blood.” Click here for more on this story.

An awards ceremony took place at Constitution Hall in Washington D.C.,  where the National Geographic Society held its annual awards ceremony to honor The Stratosphere – which paved the way for space exploration.

U.S. Army Air Corps Captains Albert W. Stevens and Orville A. Anderson landed theirExplorer II High-altitude balloon on the ground near White Lake South Dakota, they were the first Scientific Observers to reach a distance of some 72,395 feet above the earth, the highest anyone had gone before.

Referring to the leaked details of the Hoare–Laval Pact, Ethiopia announced that it strongly rejected any prosopal that would “reward Italian aggression.”

Albert Meyer

Albert Meyer was elected President of the Swiss Confederation for 1936.
