About Shanna Vicker

I was lucky enough to be a part of my Grandmother Elizabeth Carsey's last 40 years. We played countless card games, read books, played dress-up and many other games at her house. My family spent almost every holiday with her and Grandpa (until his death in 1985.) She was loved by the entire neighborhood and was often referred to as the Neighborhood Grandma. I held a special pride in the fact that I could call her mine! Through her simplicity, she taught me the basics of life and the things which make you happy. Love your family, your church and music. The only thing worth crying over is beautiful music. And above all else, approach life with a sense of humor. I have done my best to live up to her expectations and pass those lessons onto my children.

Wendell Little’s birthday today.

Burdette’s came about 5:30 – ate supper (I did) with them – Mrs. B. brought me a pink hanky – Margaret Wolfe came over and she and Charlotte and Alyce Claire and I played Bridge.  Ordered 50 cents worth of cokes!!! Someone ( I think Dwight G.) sent us some gorgeous rosebuds – yellow, pink, and orange – y- perfectly beautiful!

Heard Utica Jubilee Singers (negro) at the Baptist church – Same that I heard in Vegas. Quite good. Went to Velma’s – Met Claudine, (Jersie Belle’s kin who married Don Carver) Don and got to bid them and Wilma goodbye.  After church we got an ice cream cone and rode until the dust drove us home –

At 4 there was a faculty barbecue at the Fair Grounds.  We were entertained by the Board.  The band gave us a concert.  At night we surprised Bernard by going out. Twas his birthday – Velma, Dwight, Bess, Prentess, Alyce Claire and I went out. Pete and Velma couldn’t, Wilma is visiting Velma.

Have just listened to “Cibony” (?) It always reminds me of the Regis, Mexico City.  Had an awful dust storm last night.   Everything coated today. Went to a Japanese Tea given by the Beginner’s Dept.  I played awhile for them.  Everything was decorated a’la Japanese,  by Willie Russel and very  effective.  Bernard was supposed to call but he didn’t so I suppose he will offer the excuse again that he is sick!  That one is about worn out even if it’s true. Wrote Mrs. Gates  (still sounds funny to say or write that)* and  Mrs. Berkness.

*Mrs. Gates is her younger sister Ditty who just got married at Christmas.
