(This is an entry from the journal entitled Mexico Summer written by Elizabeth Lancaster Carsey 80-years-ago. )
Letter from Betty. She has enrolled in Albuquerque. I wrote her trying to persuade her to change, but not against her better judgement. Rumors of political conflict in Mexico! Sent yesterday for material for seersucker dress and lining for coat from Sears. Wrote to Alyce Claire, “Les Miserables” was wonderful! Frederic March seems to get better with each picture he plays in – Charles Laughton and Rochelle Hudson, John Beal good too. I didn’t know the priest’s name but he played his short part well. A little tennis with Dorothy, Jaime, Mary Jo and Maxine W. at 7 o’clock. The rain stopped us – Heard the Baer-Braddock fight over the radio. Braddock won – no one knocked out!
