Here’s what else was happening 80-years-ago today:

The Ward Liner Mohawk sinks off the Jersey coast, 163 were on board – many are feared dead.  The Captain is said to have gone down with the ship.   Flooding traps many on the icy Mississippi.

The 18th Popeye cartoon hits the big screen.
