About Shanna Vicker

I was lucky enough to be a part of my Grandmother Elizabeth Carsey's last 40 years. We played countless card games, read books, played dress-up and many other games at her house. My family spent almost every holiday with her and Grandpa (until his death in 1985.) She was loved by the entire neighborhood and was often referred to as the Neighborhood Grandma. I held a special pride in the fact that I could call her mine! Through her simplicity, she taught me the basics of life and the things which make you happy. Love your family, your church and music. The only thing worth crying over is beautiful music. And above all else, approach life with a sense of humor. I have done my best to live up to her expectations and pass those lessons onto my children.

Fooled away the time by shopping, seeing the lawyer about the wreck.  Lawyer is Hugh Woodward.  Slept a little in afternoon.  Jack Crosby, who shot him-self accidentally Thursday while hunting rabbits, is resting but it worries me –  Bought some things for Ramoncito.  Jack Crosby hurt Thursday while hunting rabbits

Have seen most of the Gallup crowd that is here.   Mozelle Brown came to see me.   Had a chance to go to the dance but after “Crusades” (grand picture!) and Josie’s leaving at 12 we couldn’t decide that we weren’t too tired.

Left for Albuquerque about 12:15. Mrs. Johnson fixed us a lovely chicken lunch.  Just the other side of Encino we found the wreck in which Mary Wingford’s car collided with Francis Schulty’s.  Pauline Regensberg , Rosamund Dean were with Mary and a negro maid with Francis.    Rosamund was worst hurt, her chin bone broken and many teeth lost!  Pauline came next with a broken arm, swollen eye, severed artery just under the knee and sprained ankle.  Sounds worse but weren’t so disfiguring or permanent.   Alyce Claire took Rosamund and Pauline to Encino – Betty and I stayed with the cars till some men came to take care of them.  The two had to say in the hospital.

Benito Mussolini

Mussolini proclaimed food restrictions, going into effect November 5, in order to fight the effects of boycotting and sanctions. Butcher shops were to close on Tuesdays and were forbidden from selling beef, veal, mutton, lamb or pork on Wednesdays. Since butcher shops already usually closed on Thursdays and most Italians refrained from eating meat on Fridays, the decree amounted to a half-week ban on meat.

Taught my girls for the first time. Jeanne Marsh, Adele Green, Marjorie Scannell, Eizabeth Loller and Martha White are regular members and Vernice Rinehart is joining the class.   Oh yes, Ginger McCune is a member but she has never come!  Went with Mary to the Christian Science Church and enjoyed it for its novelty.   The songs were entirely different and the sermon was readings from the Bible and Mary Baker Eddy – Miss Garrett is the soloist – A good many things that were read were a little beyond me.  I can’t swallow the interpretation of one woman as they can – They have a pretty church building surrounded by a large lawn and shrubs.  Still no word from Dad.  Am anxious to see Mrs. Martens when she returns.::  She called later to say that Dad was returned as was Dr. Linebaugh, but Hightower comes as presiding elder. Ty-Ty was at Conference today!  Had a chance to ride up with someone.  Mary Jo was also there for a day or so!  Wish I could hear from home!

Went to see Betty about going over there tonight to eat Bud’s cheese.   She didn’t invite us in and could talk only of the new things she had bought (meow!) so we did not feel very welcome!  Perhaps the less seen, the better:  I took a shorthand lesson and gave Mary quite a vocabulary list, also rules for pronunciation!
