About Shanna Vicker

I was lucky enough to be a part of my Grandmother Elizabeth Carsey's last 40 years. We played countless card games, read books, played dress-up and many other games at her house. My family spent almost every holiday with her and Grandpa (until his death in 1985.) She was loved by the entire neighborhood and was often referred to as the Neighborhood Grandma. I held a special pride in the fact that I could call her mine! Through her simplicity, she taught me the basics of life and the things which make you happy. Love your family, your church and music. The only thing worth crying over is beautiful music. And above all else, approach life with a sense of humor. I have done my best to live up to her expectations and pass those lessons onto my children.

Began to get hot and dusty at Chihuahua.  Arrived two hours late in Juarez.  had met a mining engineer and the newspaperman Atamiraus on the train- the latter ate a whole chicken and ten eggs for supper!!! From Juarez I went to the Union Depot and waited just a little for the Van Horn train. Betty went to find Alfred. the day coach was a swanky light green air-conditioned car that was gorgeous after the Chihuahua-Juarez trip.

He called in the morning to say that he had a ride home with Charlie Reeves.  Later to say goodbye for they were starting immediately.  One way to get out of coming up to the house, anyway!  I was disappointed because he had said he would go shopping with us for Alfrey’s watch and guaraches for Jaime.  I bought a watch for 58 pesos and a tooled-leather book cover.  Carsey would like on but I think this will be for Jaime – bought a blue vase for Mrs. Ruiz.  In the afternoon Betty and I visited Chapultepec Castle.

Left at 8:15 for Juarez. Jose Alvarez and his wife (Mrs. Ruiz’ newly married brother) spend the day at the Ruiz’s.

Just walked around town.  Rained last night as that everything looked rather fresh and pretty –

Saw the Casino and some park land near it that would have been pretty but it had been neglected.  Ate lunch and started back to Mexico at 3 – Arrived at 5, went to Sanhorn’s for drinks and came on home.  Carsey came by later and we saw the last half of the last picture at the Primavera – He is not going to Vera Cruz which rather halts plans for my trip so we weren’t very gay.  We went to Tacubaya market for  tacos, sidral and a banana.

dimmer

I felt that the summer was over and Carsey will gradually become a dimmer figure – I rather hope not!! He missed a lot this summer and all that but he is still the best companero I’ve known for a very long time.
