I was lucky enough to be a part of my Grandmother Elizabeth Carsey's last 40 years. We played countless card games, read books, played dress-up and many other games at her house. My family spent almost every holiday with her and Grandpa (until his death in 1985.) She was loved by the entire neighborhood and was often referred to as the Neighborhood Grandma. I held a special pride in the fact that I could call her mine!
Through her simplicity, she taught me the basics of life and the things which make you happy. Love your family, your church and music. The only thing worth crying over is beautiful music. And above all else, approach life with a sense of humor. I have done my best to live up to her expectations and pass those lessons onto my children.

Letter from Jonathon says that “Green Pastures” and the Russian Cosack Chorus are coming to English’s in Indianapolis and asks which shall he see! I hope he can see both! Dr. Crile preached farily well this morning. Bernard is killed that Dr. Henderson is not returning. I knew he would be! Mr. Gill (John) sang and everyone enjoyed him! Am rather looking for Dad this afternoon – (later) Have looked for him all afternoon but I guess he won’t come – Went to see “Happiness Ahead” with “Pop goes my Heart” for theme song. Quite good!

Started home about 8:30 – Arrived about 3:30. Stopped in Vaughn for lunch. Uneventful trip for me were rather tired, all of us! After going to the P.O. and thru town, I decided to practice for tomorrow. A Mr. Gill who was to sing Sunday, came to practice. He had a good voice and after practicing he offered to take me home – Before we got home he invited me to supper! I accepted. His uncle is Walter Gill – After supper we rode out toward Clovis and he sang to me, every type of song. I love to hear him – He also quoted poetry that was original but not so good. I am home about 8:15 because I thought I might have a word from or about Dad. None- Saw in the paper that Dr. Henderson has been transferred to Arkansas Conference.

Here we have a political advertisement from the Nov. 3, 1934, Lancaster Daily Gazette, one which for all its ferocity was a mere inset in a lengthy two-page harangue by Renick W. Dunlap, Congressman Mell G. Underwood’s opponent that year.
It must have been a lively campaign, but Mr. Dunlap lost anyway, 57 percent to 43 percent.
Had breakast with Agnes Bartlett, Nell Felgar, Betty Evans, Betty Martin, Eula Tucker, and Jeanette. Had a good time with that Gallup bunch. Went to the English Section – quite intersting – Saw Corona Dillinea but not to speak to. Saw Mrs. Emerson from Vegas and Fay Heath. Had seen Magelle and Creighton Brown the day before. Bought two pair of earings at the five-and-dime – Went by the Art Museum and saw a picture of Ex. Gov. Dillon. I think, done by Mr. Morris. Went to the show with Pauline – saw “Mr. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch” – Not the Mr. Wiggs I’d pictured at all!
Mahota and Margie (her sister) ate supper with us. I went with M. to her room to visit until Jeanette and Pauline came by to go to the play. Sante Fe players put on “Sure Fire” a story of Billy the Kid. Fairly well done but a part of the scenery fell in the last scene. Tsk! Tsk! Destroyed the effectiveness, Between-the-act numbers were typical Mexican songs of an orchestra dressed as charros. Played several numbers I learned last summer. After the play, the floor was cleared for dancing. I talked with Mr. Berckness for a while at first. Danced with Pete, Mr. Herbert and Emery. Promised 3 others but they stopped. I had started too late! Pete took us back to the hotel and on the way we stopped to get something to drink. Jeanette and Pauline were good and ordered hot chocolate. I ordered what Pete did, sherry and port wine. I didn’t like the sherry so he drank most of it but the port wine was good. Nearly 3 o’clock when we retired. Did I feel a bit “woosey”? – not serious though.

Went to breakfast at the Mayflower and saw Euls, Marian, Becky, Miss Davis, Mahota, her sisters and others – Alyce Claire stayed at Bishop’s Lodge but ate breakfast with us – Jeanette and Pauline went to a meeting. Alyce Claire and I fooled around met friends of hers and rode around. Saw several old-timers. Roman Cochran Barton was there – a teacher in Santa Rosa. Her husband seems to be in Hawaii. Ate lunch with the Reganshergs, Margaret James and a friend. Saw Henderson but not home. Went to a part of the afternoon session. Saw Richard Sheppard, Hubert Lindhal and May DeGeorge from Gallup who played in the All-State Band! Had dinner with Pete in a charming, Mexican – arty place on Manhattan St. called Chamiza Inn. Several Roswell teachers there. Rode around later but decided we wouldn’t go to the dance. I got rather disgusted with him because he practically went to sleep! I was tired but not so much as to show it so badly! Came back about 10:30 and talked a long time again.

Taught from 8 – 12 and never so nearly went mad at them! Everybody seemed to be on a tear! Went to Sante Fe with Nina and jolly though these are the first symptoms I’ve seen of it! I enjoyed the trip. Got into Sante Fe about 6:30 ad Jeanette was waiting for me. Bless her heart! She is the same as ever. I went to supper and came back to wait for Pauliver. Bruce Goards was there and he had left before she did from Dexter. We began to worry. She came about 9 and we found out that she had been in town as long as I but had forgotten the name of the hotel – We stayed at St Fidel. We talked until 12 and enjoyed each other thoroughly.

Day of Days! A letter from home and one from A. Carsey, too! Can hopes and dreams come true! If I go home Thanksgiving, he suggests that I go to El Paso with him for a day, maybe! Shall I try to go? Met Bernard this afternoon, he drove me home. He said that if I went home Thanksgiving that he’d take me to Carlsbad, or wherever the family could meet me! Sweet boy! At 12 o’clock (near midnight) a Mr. Brown (Bonnie) friend of Pennie’s and Alyce Claire’s, came up to tell me he was starting for Carlsbad then and for me to come along! But seriously, he does go about twice a month and if the time was convenient to me, he’d be glad of my company! Another way to get part way home! But he’d had a drink! What men

Letter from Pete inviting me to dinner Thursday night in Sante Fe: Hoorah! Dear ol’ Pete. Went to my first real class in exercise and tap dancing. Do I expect to be sore! Worse even than the Tennis, or I’ll be surprised.

Ate dinner with Nina and Gladys Palmer. Chicken! Went for a ride later to Tinnie and back. Saw quite a few autumn colors in trees and vines and fields. Came back in time for League and Church. Mr Adkins drove us around after church, discovered his new car among other things –

Played tennis after school until sundown. Borrowed Tom Fletcher’s racket – Went on a steak-fry with Mrs. Burdette and the girls’ chorus at 6 at the park on S. Missouri. Had a date with Bernard to the Washington Ave School Carnival. Mr. and Mrs. Walden Bassett and Alyce Claire went too – We three went to the show afterwards to see “Kansas City Princess” -Rather good-
