Date for P.T.A. Program with Christmas Play set for Monday night!  Assembly performance on Friday week at one o’clock! Checked on my account and discovered I have $27 – beside my dividend for $27* from the First National in Gallup – Lucky Me!  Wrote letters at night.

*$27 in 1934 is = to $476.69 today!

Fair day – Grand Day!!  Two letters from Van Horn!!  One from the Public Schools! Oh Yeah! Bought cheese cloth (16 yds) for back drop for the Christmas play – Had a scare the P.T.A. might want that play this Thursday instead of a week from Friday! Not sure yet!  Letter from Carsey referred me to “Time”  (his fav-ite) to and article on Mexico’s new president Lazaro Cardenas.  Interesting.  Bernard and I went to the show – Talked late again!

First time for the robes. Don’t look as bad when everybody else wears them. After church went to dinner at Misses Palmers.  Martens, Bizbees, Shaffer, Snipes, Alyce Claire and I were there.   Lovely tables – Red candles and carnations.  At night we went window shopping with Bernard and Mrs. Johnston.  Found out that he did not care for the tie-chain clasp.  What to get?  What to get?  After they left. (about 8!) we ate supper at Shorty Hood’s and went to see “College Rythm.” Good.

The second NFL Championship Game was played at The Polo Grounds in New York City.  It was known as The Sneakers Game.   The NY Giants defeated the then undefeated Chicago Bears 30-13.  The Giants head coach decided that sneakers would fare better on the frozen ground and the team switched to basketball sneakers in the third quarter when the team was trailing 10-3.   Amazingly NY outscored the Bears 27-0 in the fourth quarter for the win.

Put Glover’s Mange stuff on my hair last night so I had it washed early this morning.  Pauline was up.  Fixed my choir gown except for pressing – Bernard came by and Alyce Claire and I went over to Pete’s and Velma’s.  Caught them about to eat supper.  Played Hearts and laughed ourselves sick!  More fun – Back at 12:30!

American  Missionaries John and Betty Stam were beheaded in the Chinese town of Miaoshou, after being taken prisoner by the Red Army.  Betty managed to hide their 3 month old baby,  Helen, in some sleeping bags.  She was found two days later by a Chinese Pastor and taken to her grandparents who were also missionaries in China.   Eventually Helen was returned to the United States and raise by her Aunt and Uncle.

Saw “St. Louis Kid” (Jimmy Cagney – reminds me a lot of Jaimie!)  Too many shows for a poor working girl – Got English Journey by J.B. Priestley from Carnegie.  Hope it is good.  Mrs. Burdette sent my robe over. It is immense! I plan to take it up all the ways there are.  I know I look woosey but so will 69 others!  Put dog mange cure on my head tonight – Don’t even know if I will be able to sleep with myself or not – May have to go into the next room!  Card came in the mail inviting me to the Martens a week from tomorrow morning at 10.  Hazel Hanson’s wedding I suppose, though it doesn’t state so on the card.  I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if she were already married!  What to give her!  Bought Christmas cards and had some left from last year and still back a dozen.  I’ll probably think of more people to send to, too.  Sent Dit my tafetta dress for the dance tomorrow and a check I had forgotten about.

Letter from Dit – She wants my green tafetta. Has that dress had a History!  Took a letter to Fannie O. Butler as a Notary Public and mailed it to Gallup.  Great hopes!  Went to choir practice – then to a reception for the new preachers.  Left with Velma to go to the show and saw “Pursuit of Happines”  – Fair.  Went to Shorty Hood’s and met Pete. They walked home with me.  Nize people. Pete and Velma!

Got pantomime part of cast selected –  Talked to them about costumes.  Went to Burdette’s  in the afternoon to resign from the Young People’s Dept. – but – didn’t. Stayed for supper instead and wrote to Mrs. O.B.  Listened to B’s new radio.  Had letter from the Gallup Bank.  I sign something before a Notary Public and they send me a dividend – Shall see to that tomorrow.
